Poi is the Māori word for ‘ball on a string’. The poi dance has been used for many centuries, first by indigenous Māori of New Zealand, especially wahine (females). These days, Poi are used as a form of entertainment, dance, fun and to enhance coordination. This is a great activity to encourage learning and discussion about Māori culture in your classroom.
