 “Thinking and Talking differently about Bullying and Behaviour Problems” All children will experience some form of aggression and/ or bullying during their lives. How they respond and deal with these experiences will depend on many factors. Being a parent or teacher of a child who is being aggressive or who is experiencing bullying presents many challenges. This workshop provides a hands on and interactive opportunity to explore the causes of, and solutions to aggression and bullying among children and young people.  Defining Aggression and Bullying Types of Aggression Emotions and Aggression The real problem with bullying What to do about Aggression and Bullying Sharing our stories A problem-solving approach for dealing with a crisis Questions and answers   Understanding Anger and Aggression in young people Children who are aggressive and violent towards themselves and others challenge educators and family members. A key to helping children deal with anger and aggression – is understanding that children who learn to repress their anger will probably become violent, and those who learn to manage their anger will not. We also need to accept that conflict plays an important in children’s learning. This workshop is based on a book that Dean is currently co-authoring that focuses on understanding and supporting children who display aggressive and violent behaviour. In the “Understanding Anger and Aggression in Children and Young People” workshop, Dean will help you – Learn about the link between anger and aggression Understand the causes of aggression and violence Understand the importance of anger and conflict Respond effectively to anger and aggression Learn the downsides of punishment and rewards Practice 5 tried and true strategies to reduce and eliminate aggression and violence The 6 “w”s that teachers and parents can put into practice when children get angry or aggressive  This workshop is for – Early Childhood staff who interact with children or young people who are aggressive or violent Parents who struggle to support children who are aggressive Anyone interested in forming more effective relationships with children and young people.
