Matiu has designed a Māoritanga workshop specifically for our centres to support their desire to learn more about Māoridom and therefore become more comfortable to stand in the Māori world. Who is this workshop for?Matiu's Māoritanga workshops will help build confidence in the Māori language and culture for our teachers, board members and community members from all regions throughout Aotearoa. Those who participate will be responsible for taking the knowledge back to their centres. What will be covered?The 3 main areas of learning are:1. Basic Māori language and pronunciation skills 2. Waiata Māori, the basics of teaching kapa haka , games, and story telling3. Māori customs, protocols and relationship building with local Māori Local Māori connections:Supporting the creation and nurturing of relationships with local Māori will be a strong focus and practical, helpful approaches will be shared. Using the inspiration and momentum of the workshops to help create a Māori friendly, strong and respected environment, It is also hoped that local kapa haka teachers, Kaumatua etc will eventually be sourced and welcomed into the centres whānau. A big key is to give our centres whānau the confidence to stand in the Māori world. This comes with participation and practice.
